2009-2010
1st & 2nd QUARTER
This year in Art, I began with the beauty of God’s creation of us and the world around us. We explored the world of color and self discovery of the gifts and interests God has placed in each of our hearts.
- This began with the school-wide project “I Am Unique” which gives me a chance to teach the children about the different ways God made them and about the acceptance of others.
- I hope all of you were able to see the amazing “Mixed Media Color Wheel” we created, as a school, as we learned all about color.
- “So God created the great creatures of the sea…” Genesis 1:21. We had the wonderful opportunity to create a sea project for the company Original Works to print on all kinds of items, like magnets.
- The older students made “Name Self Portraits” which took much thought; they learned a lot about themselves and each other.
- The younger students worked hard on their fine motor skills and getting comfortable with all different media.
- We created many fun and beautiful holiday pieces including: Pilgrim/Indian Hats, Indian Clay Jewelry, Glass Etching, Tin Ornaments, Baby Jesus Scene, Painted Clay Ornaments, Nativity Ornaments, Coffee Filter Angels, Painted Balls, Clay-Based Christmas Trees and Lid Ornaments.
3rd & 4th QUARTER
All the grades will be exploring a Multicultural Curriculum. We will be learning about Art in many different cultures, and making projects based upon what we learn. This is very exciting and the kids are shown examples of the “real thing” either to touch or from the internet. When we study other cultures we often run into the belief/myth of the culture and this gives me the chance to review God’s Word and the Truth. We may not get to all of these projects, but I am hopeful!
- Indonesian Batik Banner (we did this in the 2nd quarter)
- Magnificent Mandalas - found in Navajo sand painting/basketry, Islamic mosaics, Celtic knot designs and many types of art from other cultures
- Hand Woven Bowls - American Indian, African, Mexico, Middle East and Hawaiian
- Chinese Scroll with Calligraphy
- Aboriginal Art - The indigenous people of Australia
- Japanese Fans
- Some extra projects planned for Valentine's Day and Easter focusing on Jesus’ love
- Plus much more!!
